WHEAT, AND ITS SUBTLE CHARACTER, IS THE OVERARCHING THEME IN ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS.
Our spirits begin on the lower Deschutes River east of The Dalles in the spring as the wheat starts to take its form.
Mt. Hood watches over the fields where on a clear day six mountain peaks are visible.
This magical part of Oregon formed long before recorded time by Ice Age floods.
These floods carved the Columbia River Gorge and left rich deposits of soil on the plateau above.
Over the centuries, volcanic eruptions added layers of ash to the land we now know as the Columbia Plateau.
Is was here my great, great Grandfather, Joel C. Johnson, settled in 1875 – he was one of the first to farm wheat
east of the Cascades. Today, the land is still golden with endless waves of wheat, the premier grain for distilling spirits.
