Catoctin Creek® was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. Virginia is the birthplace of American whiskey, and at Catoctin Creek, we faithfully dedicate ourselves to that tradition, producing Virginia’s most awarded whisky today—Roundstone Rye!

The name “Catoctin” is a regional name. Pronounced Ka-TOCK-tin, the name derives from the Indian tribal name “Kittocton” which, legend has it, meant “place of many deer”. Catoctin describes a range of mountains and the creek which flows picturesquely past the distillery and into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Watershed.

At Catoctin Creek, we believe in high quality food and spirits. We source our grain and fruit from local and organic sources, free of pesticides and chemical additives that would come through in the spirits we produce. The results are the finest, cleanest spirits possible, with the greatest attention to detail in every single bottle we produce.

  • Catoctin Creek was a fun, tasty last stop on our distillery tour day today. I started with the cocktail flight and my husband had the traditional flight. The highlight for both of us was the 80 proof Rye Whiskey. Such a nice touch that this business strives to be organic, as well as carrying and utilizing local products. Reasonably priced clothing and items to take home, and although the alcohol is priced a little high as other reviewers have stated, this is a small business that puts so much into their product, so the price is understandable. This establishment is also dog and child friendly, and offers a military discount on all items but alcohol (per Va ABC laws). Overall an awesome experience, check it out if you're into the spirit scene and find yourself in the NOVA area. Cheers! 🥃

  • Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is a welcome addition to the distillery scene in northern Virginia. I stumbled upon this distillery when riding through Purcellville with a couple of buddies and we booked a tour of the distillery. The tour was rather disappointing as there's honestly not much to see (you can see the entire thing front to back in a few minutes). However, it's the never-ending compassion of the staff and their commitment to great service and the art of distilling that earns Catoctin Creek a place in each local's heart. Walk in and you're greeted with a high-ceiling ambiance that resembles Industrial-age aesthetics. Have a seat at the bar or any of the open-lobby tables and you instantly feel like you're being invited into someone's home. There's a ton of whiskies/bourbons to choose from -- Catoctin Creek even produces their own gin. While I wasn't crazy about any particular spirit of theirs, the cocktails flights are pretty cool. You can make great conversation with one of the bartenders-- or even one of the managing members of the distilling company. The only real downside is that they don't offer food; I'm not a fan of drinking without eating-- it just doesn't seem right. They do let you bring outside food however, which is great. If you're looking for a few good drinks or just want to hang out in a cool spot, definitely wander into Catoctin Creek-- you might just end up staying for a while.

  • Excellent first impression there least expensive bottle of rye whiskey was excellent looking forward to trying there outher offerings

  • My wife and I stopped in after a day out at the wineries. There aren't too many distilleries in NOVA, so we had to take advantage. It was quiet toward the end of the day and we were waited in right away at the bar. We shared a Whiskey flight together. The "92 proof" was definitely the highlight, though the "80 proof" and "Spirit" were also very tasty. We were lucky and showed up in time to do the free tour. It was entertaining, to say the least (thanks, Jake!). I give 4 stars because the experience and flavors were excellent, I just wish the price of the bottles, flights, and cocktails weren't so high. The Whiskey and Brandy flights (1.5 oz total) are $10 and the cocktails are $7 for about 8 ounces of cocktail (eyeballing). I do recommend stopping by to try out the rye. It's worth the trip and ranks high on my list of favorites. It also helps that the distillery is local, environmentally conscious, and low/no waste.

  • Great service. The experience you receive for a whiskey tasting is amazing. The staff is super knowledgeable about the process of whiskey making and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
